Edinburgh Ear Care is a mobile ear wax removal service run independently by Carys, a registered Specialist Practitioner District Nurse and independent prescriber trained within the NHS.
Ear wax impaction can leave people struggling with discomfort, hearing loss and reduced quality of life.
Through her nursing, Carys understands how difficult it can be for housebound and elderly people to
access ear wax removal services. Home visits are also helpful for those working from home, with busy schedules or simply those who prefer treatment in their house. Many GP clinics no longer offer this service and Carys can provide a thorough ear examination and treatment to ensure the best outcomes.
Appointments are flexible and fit around you

What is Microsuction?
Microsuction is now the 'gold standard' treatment for ear wax. involves removing stubborn wax with a tiny, gentle suction tube. It is usually quick and doesn't involve the use of water. It is now recommended as the gold standard treatment for wax removal.

What is Ear irrigation?
Ear irrigation is a method used to remove ear wax by flushing the ear canal with water or a saline solution. The goal is to soften and wash out wax that is blocking the ear.

What causes Ear Wax?
Ear Wax is actually very important for our ears, it acts as a natural lubricant and protector. Some people produce more wax than others due to age, genetics or the shape of their ear canal. Using earbuds, hearing aids or cotton buds can push wax deeper and cause blockages and certain skin conditions, such as eczema can increase wax production.

How do I know if I need Ear Wax removal?
Common signs include reduced hearing, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, itching or ringing. If you experience these symptoms, give us a call. A full ear assessment will be undertaken prior to any treatment and we can determine the safest way to remove wax.

Who Do we treat?
We are experienced in providing care for a wide range of patients, including those who are housebound and may find it difficult to attend a clinic. Our mobile service is also available for anyone who prefers treatment in their own home; those who work from home, have difficulty with childcare, or simply want the comfort and ease of receiving the treatment in their own home.
